Immunoassay (analyzer-based)

Overview

There are several types of immunoassay methods used in drug testing applications, including enzyme, radio, and florescence polarization.  Immunoassay tests are a biochemical technique used to detect and quantify the presence of drugs metabolites in the sample.  Reagents that bind with drugs or drug metabolites are combined with the sample in a laboratory analyzer and this reaction is detected by the selected Immunoassay analyzer technology.  A large number of drugs of abuse can be efficiently tested on each sample and the drugs tested can be customized for each sample.

While each immunoassay method has its merits, Global Drug Testing Services predominately uses Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) laboratory analysis.  We have found EIA to be the best alternative for the majority of our clients and have worked closely with the developers of this technology to gain an in-depth understanding of the method.  Our EIA experience and relationship with our technology partners as well as our testing protocols enable us to maximize the accuracy of our EIA test – nearly 100% of our positive results are confirmed positive.  We understand the strengths and weaknesses of the technology and have adapted our processes to make EIA the most cost effective and accurate solution for our clients.

Immunoassay Summary Information

CostNominal premium to the most reliable and accurate instant test kits
AccuracyCan be nearly as accurate as GC/LC-MS with the proper protocols, equipment, and trained personnel
TurnaroundTest takes minutes to process and many samples can be processed simultaneously
SensitivityLower available cutoff levels than most instant alternatives, including marijuana at 20 ng/ml versus the typical POC range of 50 to 100 ng/ml
DOA RangeCapable of testing virtually all drugs of abuse
