The Drug Court Judicial Benchbook brings evidence-based practices and best practices to the Adult Drug Court field like never before. After years of compiling and synthesizing the collective knowledge and wisdom of thousands of judges, attorneys, treatment providers, probation officers, law enforcement officers, and research scholars, The Drug Court Judicial Benchbook provides key guidelines that will help judges improve client outcomes and increase cost savings.
“NADCP and NDCI are committed to bringing the latest science, law and practice to Drug Court professionals,” said NADCP CEO West Huddleston. “As Drug Courts continue to go to scale and become more readily available to every American in need, Drug Court judges must have the best information about the model at their fingertips. The Drug Court Judicial Benchbook gives them that tool and I encourage all judges to carefully review a copy.”
Funded by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) in collaboration with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), The Drug Court Judicial Benchbook provides a planning guide for new courts and includes chapters on important topics such as substance abuse treatment, community supervision, drug testing, judicial ethics and constitutional law. The Drug Court Judicial Benchbook is structured in a custom-made binder so that future updates can easily be added as the field grows.
“The conclusions of over two decades of research clearly demonstrate that not only do Drug Courts work, but fidelity to the Ten Key Components of the model is essential for achieving the most successful and cost-effective outcomes,” said Justice William Ray Price, Board Chair of NADCP and two-time Chief Justice of Missouri. “This book is crucial reading for any Drug Court judge, new or seasoned, and adds considerably to the collective knowledge of our field.”
The Drug Court Judicial Benchbook is now available online at www.NDCI.org and can be ordered by contacting Ingrid Gutierrez at igutierrez@nadcp.org, 571-384-1870. Hard copies have also been mailed to all State Drug Court Coordinators who are distributing them to all Adult Drug Courts.
